MANILA — 47 professional and aspiring Filipino writers were honored Monday night at the annual Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City.
A total of 57 judges — each accomplished in their own right — screened and evaluated numerous entries in 20 different categories.
Ms. Gilda Cordero-Fernando, best known for her landmark works “The Butcher, The Baker and The Candlestick Maker” (1962) and “A Wilderness of Sweets” (1973) was this year’s guest of honor. She was awarded the illustrious Gawad Dangal ng Lahi for her exemplary contribution in Philippine literature.
