TORONTO—Two people are in hospital in stable condition following a crash on Highway 401 in east-end Toronto.

Provincial police say a tractor-trailer slammed into a work site in the eastbound lanes just after 2 a.m. at Morningside Dr.

The truck struck at least one Ministry of Transport vehicle and two other vehicles involved in cleaning up a previous accident on the shoulder.

The OPP says eastbound express lanes are closed and traffic is being diverted to the collector lanes near Neilson Rd.

The express lane closures could last until about noon.
