The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) approved the release of funds amounting to P66.2 million to meet the endowment requests of 63 public hospitals.
According to PCSO General Manager Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II, the PCSO Endowment Fund is meant to cover the medical expenses of patients who qualify as charity cases, under existing PCSO rules and guidelines.
Rojas further said that the 62 beneficiary hospitals were accorded amounts ranging from P300,000 to P5 million, with regard to factors such as bed capacity, services offered, etcetera.
Ten of the hospitals are operated by the Department of Health: East Avenue Medical Center, and Baguio City General Hospital and Medical Center (P3 million each); Lung Center of the Philippines, National Children’s Hospital, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Tondo Medical Center, and Davao Regional Hospital (P2.5 million each); Amang Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Bataan General Hospital (P2 million each); and the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City (P1.5 million.)
In the National Capitol Region, the Philippine General Hospital will be receiving P5 million; Caloocan City Medical Center, P1 million, and Sta. Ana Hospital, P1 million.
The remainder of the public hospitals (48 in all) are located in Regions I to XII, the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), Caraga Region, and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), as well as two others in the NCR will e given amounts ranging from P300,000 to P1.5 million.
