MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is trying to get the documents from alleged pork barrel “brains” Janet Lim Napoles to support the two affidavits she has submitted to Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima.
Napoles is the alleged “brains” behind the P10-billion Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the P900-million Malampaya Fund scams.
“The NBI is now trying to get those documents from her, as part of the ongoing vetting/fact-finding process into the veracity of her allegations in the two affidavits,” De Lima said in a text message on Monday to reporters covering the DOJ.
Napoles earlier submitted two affidavits to De Lima. The first was an initial affidavit, then a month later, she submitted an extended and complete affidavit.
De Lima turned over both affidavits to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee in compliance with a subpoena duces tecum it issued.
However, De Lima said that the vetting and verification process of the NBI to determine the truthfulness of the contents of the affidavit is ongoing.
Napoles is now incarcerated in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna for the case of serious illegal detention filed against her by Benhur Luy, the prime whistle-blower in the PDAF and the Malampaya Fund scams.
