MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is satisfied with the number of people that went to the satellite registration held at the Luneta on Sunday, June 1.
With this, Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes reminded the public or qualified voters and those registered voters with no biometrics to go to their local Comelec offices as they still have more than a year to register and have their biometrics data captured.
“Why rush? The registration is for 17 months…you have more than a year to register but don’t wait for the last minute also,” he said in an interview.
Brillantes noted that the Offices of the Election Officer all over the country are open from Sunday to Friday at 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to accept those who will apply for registration.
Based on the data provided by the commission there were 141 registrants as of 10 am, June 1, in the Luneta satellite registration.
The satellite registration held in Manila on Sunday was also conducted to encourage people with disabilities (PWD) and senior citizens to register.
Commissioner Grace Padaca noted that they are planning to conduct satellite registration in different shopping malls for (PWDs) and senior citizens for their convenience.
She added that it is important for PWDs and senior citizens to register or update their registration for the poll body would know their number.
“I myself is a PWD but I am not identified by Comelec so we need to update our registration and to tell the poll body that we are PWDs and senior citizens,” the poll body official said.
The ongoing nationwide registration started last May 6 and will run until October 31, 2015. (PNA)
