MANILA -– Senate Majority Leader Allan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday described Janet Lim Napoles’ sworn affidavit as “tailor-fitted” designed to convince the government to grant her immunity from plunder charges in the controversial pork barrel scam.
”It’s not the tell-all affidavit but tailor-fitted in her defense and request for immunity,” Cayetano said in media interview.
Aside from application for state witness, Cayetano said the “great objective” of Napoles is to create confusion amid the plunder charges filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. and other individuals linked to the scam.
Contrary to Napoles’ claim, Cayetano believes Napoles is the most guilty and it disqualifies her to be the state witness.
”We see inconsistencies in her affidavit. It contradicts the statement of the whistleblowers,” Cayetano said.
”What Ms. Napoles wanted to do is to make her immunity acceptable by turning the tables,” he added.
Cayetano denied the allegation of Napoles that they met in a restaurant to ask for campaign funds, “Because I don’t know her.”
”I absolutely deny that I have any dealings with Napoles,” Cayetano said.
Cayetano believes that “somebody powerful” is behind the issuance of Napoles’ affidavit that include list of 120 lawmakers who allegedly had dealings with her.
”What I know, there is somebody powerful behind her and protecting her,” said Cayetano who refused to pinpoint the operator behind Napoles.
