MANILA — In time for the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia to be held in Metro Manila next week, the Trade and Industry Minister of Malaysia will visit and bring Malaysian businessmen here for a business networking session with their Philippine counterparts.

“The Honorable Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed will be in Manila to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) on 21-23 May 2014, at the same time promote trade and investment opportunities between the Philippines and Malaysia,” the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) said.

The business matching session, which will take place on May 22 at 9:30 a.m. in Fairmont Hotel, Makati City, is organized by PCCI and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

In his visit to the Philippines for the WEF regional meeting, Minister Mohamed is accompanied by 12 Malaysian companies which represent sectors in construction and building materials, as well as information and communications technology (ICT).

Meanwhile, both public and private sectors have seen that holding WEF on East Asia here will draw more business interests to the Philippines.

Sushant Palakurthi Rao, Senior Director, Head of Asia of WEF, said bringing the regional summit in the country will highlight the Philippines as “a shining example of the region” in terms of its remarkable economic growth.

It will be the first time that the Philippines is hosting a WEF meeting.
