MANILA (PNA) — Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, chairperson of the Committee on Youth, is encouraging some six million youths to register in order to practice their right of suffrage under the Constitution and eventually become an “instrument of change.”
In a statement issued Monday, Aquino said it is really salient for the youth of the country to participate in elections.
“I am urging the six million youth to register and vote. They must know that they are the instrument of change. The change that our country needs, so we could fight graft and corruption,” he said.
He explained that when the youth waste their chance to vote, they are missing the opportunity to change the political system of the country.
“Don’t waste your right to vote. This is one way you can effect positive change in the country’s political system,” Aquino stressed.
Also, Aquino called on the 9.6 million registered voters who have no biometric data to update their records in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) during the registration period for the 2016 elections.
He is also encouraging local officials to take part in Comelec’s efforts in the registration of voters by providing transportation to their constituents living in far-flung areas. (PNA)
