With the upcoming holy week, all transport points have increased its security to ensure the safety of the large number of travelers who will be going to their provinces or on vacation.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesman Armand Balilo said that the PCG will cooperate with the Philippine Ports Authority and local police departments of corresponding areas. The Maritime Industry Authority, Department of Transportation and Communications, and the PCG Auxiliary unit will also increase their visibility in certain locations.

Security against criminal acts is not the only reason why the PCG has decided to go on full alert as early as one week before Lent. Balilo explains that law enforcement groups and authorities can offer a huge amount of help should there be a maritime emergency.
