Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday afternoon in his apartment in 35 Bethune St. in the West Village of Manhattan according to local law enforcement as reported by The Wall Street Journal and showbiz insider TMZ.

The story is still developing, but sources told TMZ that the probable cause of death is drug overdose. The New York Police Department is still conducting investigations and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is yet to determine the exact cause of death.

Hoffman was reportedly found lifeless in his bathroom with a needle on his left arm and two plastic bags (some reports said envelope) nearby, one of which contained heroin.

Hoffman was reported to have a drug problem and wanted to check into rehab to “nip it in the bud.” However, he did not show up on Sunday where he was supposed to pick up his kids at 9 A.M. One of his friends found this unusual and became concerned. His friend then paid the actor a visit and found him already dead in his bathroom.

Hoffman has been clean for 23 years, but relapsed in 2012.

Hoffman was 46. He won an Academy Away in 2006 for “Capote.” He was 7 days away from finishing filming “The Hunger Games 3: Mockingjay.”
