After emerging as the grand winner in the “The Voice of the Philippines,” many were asking, what would be next for Mitoy Yonting.
At the recent launch of SMART Music’s SPINNR, Mitoy revealed that he will be part of a sitcom, a Sunday show—and the surprising package is a daily gig on “It’s Showtime.”
Interestingly, “It’s Showtime” is the archrival of “Eat Bulaga,” the show where Mitoy first appeared in TV. Mitoy and his brother Mylo, first appeared in Eat Bulaga’s singing contest in the late 90’s.
Other GMA-7 shows where Mitoy had previous TV appearances, include “Ful Haus” and “H3O: Ha Ha Ha Over!” on QTV Channel 11 (now GMA News TV).
Prior to accepting the offer from the Kapamilya network, the 43-year-old singer shared that he asked Vic Sotto’s blessings, “Personally kinausap ko si Vic Sotto. Nilapitan ko si Bossing. Nagpaalam ako. Siyempre respeto naman ‘yun e ang laki naman ng naitulong sa’kin [ng Eat Bulaga] noong simula e. (I personally talked to Vic Sotto. I approached Bossing. I asked permission. Of course, I needed to be respectful. Eat Bulaga had helped me a lot when I was just starting).”
He added, “E sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Bossing medyo magkakaroon daw ako ng Showtime.’ Sabi niya, ‘Ok ‘yun!’ Tsaka sitcom, ‘E ‘di ayos!’” (I told him, ‘Bossing, I will have Showtime.’ He said, ‘That’s okay! And a sitcom, ‘That’s great!’”).
Joey De Leon, one of the hosts of Eat Bulaga also expressed his happiness for Mitoy after winning in “The Voice of the Philippines.”
Next month, Mitoy will be seen on “It’s Showtime.” Reports said that he will be either a co-host or a resident judge.
