SUMMARY:Surrey Fusion Festival
DESCRIPTION:Surrey Fusion Festival is proud to support local Indigenous and cultural groups in the programming and planning of the event. \nThe City of Surrey is situated on the traditional\, ancestral\, and unceded territories of the Salish Peoples\, including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie)\, q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen)\, and Semiahma (Semiahmoo) land-based nations. \nSurrey Fusion Festival is the ultimate celebration of food\, music and culture. Festival organizers are proud to work with communities representing different ethnicities and cultures from around the world\, and honour the traditions and history that they share with attendees. Since the festival’s inception in 2008\, the event has grown to showcase over 40 different cultures\, with pavilions offering international foods\, displays of artifacts and textiles\, and multiple stages featuring musical and dance performances. Surrey Fusion Festival is proud to host pavilions from over 4 cultures from across the globe\, including from North and South America\, Europe\, Africa\, Asia and Oceania. \nIn 2017\, organizers – in collaboration with advisors – added an Indigenous Village to showcase and celebrate Indigenous culture through performances\, displays\, interactive workshops and a marketplace. \nIt is the festival’s mandate to provide ample opportunities for attendees to learn and engage with different cultural activities during the event\, including participating in dance lessons\, learning how to cook cultural cuisine\, and learning about local businesses and not-for-profit organizations. The festival has something for everyone and provides attendees with a safe space to try new cuisine\, experience and learn about other cultures\, and spend time with friends and family. \nThis project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada. Ce projet a été rendu possible en partie grâce au gouvernement du Canada. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia. \nLearn more about the event here.
