MANILA—Sy-led BDO Unibank (BDO) hit the 1,000-mark in terms of branches nationwide following the opening of another full-service outlet in Davao City last March 20.

In a release, the bank said its branch in Buhangin, Davao City will help it further widen its reach and help lower the number of Filipinos who remain unbanked.

“We fully recognize that there are still about 70 percent of the population with no bank accounts or has yet to enter the formal banking sector. The continued growth of our branches is our way of creating opportunities for more people to experience the rewards of having a bank that takes care of their financial needs,” said BDO senior executive vice president and head of branch banking Jaime C. Yu.

Yu stressed that further increasing their branches “is a testament to the Bank’s commitment to make banking reachable to Filipinos whether they are located in the metropolitan area or far flung provinces.”

The bank ended 2016 with 982 branches, including one in Hong Kong, and it targets to increase these further by additional 60 this 2017.

As of end-2016, bulk of the bank’s branches are in Metro Manila, 492, followed by those in Luzon, 305, Visayas, 108, and Mindanao, 76.

Its network of automated teller machines (ATMs) numbers to more than 3,600 nationwide.
