MANILA—International and local passengers and commuters will be able to use Runway Manila, the pedestrian bridge directly connecting Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 (T3) with Newport City starting next month.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the construction of the 220-meter elevated bridge that stands 65 meters above Andrews Avenue in Pasay City is on track.

“Once completed, RunWay Manila will allow the average person to walk the distance between the airport and Newport City in approximately three minutes,” he said in a statement.

The project is an enclosed, air-conditioned bridge, with PWD-friendly facilities such as moving walkways and elevators. It will have a modern, eye-catching design, which may be an iconic landmark in the city’s skyline.

“Runway Manila is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 persons at any time, or up to 216,000 individuals per day. The bridge is for the benefit and free use of the public,” Villar added.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), NAIA T3 has the capacity to handle 13 million international passengers annually.

“The Duterte Administration is fully committed to reduce vehicular traffic congestion and increase mobility of pedestrians. More bicycles lanes, pedestrian and PWD friendly facilities will be constructed,” he said.

The project is developed in cooperation with Travellers International Hotel Group.
