Mounties say a passenger on the bus travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway called police Tuesday saying another passenger was brandishing a large knife and acting erratically.

The bus, which had left from Regina and was heading east, pulled over between Sintaluta and Wolseley.

RCMP Sgt. Ryan Case says the man with the knife initially would not let another passenger off the bus, or move from his seat.

The man then left the bus.

“They locked him out of the bus once he got out and said he was walking up the highway,” Case said.

The man walked into a farmer’s field and police set up a perimeter. After about 45 minutes, the man walked to police and gave himself up.

No one was injured.

“Things turned out very well, we’re very happy the way things turned out,” Case said Wednesday.

Police seized a meat cleaver, Case said.

Victor Goldstein, 29, of Consul, Sask., is facing several charges, including assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
