“And I know destabilization activity when I see one,” Senator Panfilo Lacson said before reporters after he tagged Senator Trillanes as one of those who is behind a plot to destabilize the Duterte administration.

Lacson had confessed to having instigated destabilization attempts during the time of Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and claimed that Trillanes’ actions are quite familiar.

He questioned Trillanes’ aim of prolonging the hearing on Arturo Lascañas’ allegations against the President.

To me, it’s not bad, it’s normal when you feel an administration is failing the Filipino people, I think it’s incumbent upon us being public officials ourselves and even a common Filipino, ordinary Filipino to ensure [that any move to bring down a government] should not be done illegally because there are constitutional means to remove a President who you think is violating the Constitution,” he added.

Trillanes had earlier denied allegations about him being part of a destabilization plot and said that urging the Senate to further probe on Lascañas’ claims is just an attempt to know the truth about the actions of Duterte when he was still the Mayor of Davao City.

In response to this Lacson said, “But what is the goal? Just the truth? Come on. We were not born yesterday. All of a sudden your goal is just to expose the truth? For what reason? For what purpose? And what is the objective?”

While it was Trillanes who hosted Lascañas’ public confession last February 20 and initiated to conduct a Senate probe regarding the matter, it was Lacson who chaired the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.
In only one hearing, Lacson’s committee adjourned the probe and concluded that  Lascañas’ credibility was highly questionable and his statements are not backed with sufficient evidence.
