China sends ‘Message of Condolences’ to Surigao quake victims
MANILA—The People’s Republic of China has sent a ‘message of condolences’ to the victims of the 6. 7 magnitude earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte and Surigao City last Friday night.
The death toll has risen to 8 on Monday, with six of the casualties were recorded in Surigao City, while 2 were in Surigao del Norte.
The number of injured people, meanwhile, is now at 209.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the letter was addressed to Foreign Affairs (DFA)Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. on February 13.
Wang said the message also stated that China stands ready to actively provide assistance to the Philippines.
“It is believed that under the leadership of the Philippine government, people in the disaster area could certainly overcome difficulties and restore normal production and life at an early date,” Wang pointed out.
He added that assistance will be sent to the government of the Philippines but did not give details.
