MANILA—Two South Koreans wanted for swindling in their country were arrested by Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents in separate operations in Metro Manila.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Jung Jaeyul, 38 and Son Young Jo, 59, were arrested in Las Pinas and Makati City, respectively, are now detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending their deportation to South Korea where they will stand trial for their crimes.

Operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) first arrested Jung last Jan. 26 inside his rented unit at the Lanika Bldg,, Ohana Residences while Son was arrested in his room at the Buma Bldg. along Metropolitan Ave., San Antonio Village on Wednesday.

“They are the latest casualties of our continuing campaign to rid our country of wanted foreign fugitives who come and hide here to evade prosecution and punishment for their crimes,” the BI chief said in a statement.

He noted that the foreigners have been placed in the the immigration blacklist, thus preventing them from returning to the country.

The arresting agents were armed with a warrant of deportation issued by Morente pursuant to summary deportation orders that were slapped against the South Koreans by the BI board of commissioners.

On the other hand, Bobby Raquepo, BI-FSU acting chief, said that the foreigners are subjects of outstanding arrest warrants issued by South Korean courts where they had been charged with fraud before they fled to Manila.

“They have also become undocumented aliens as they failed to renew their Korean passports which have already expired,” he added.
