MANILA—The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is all set to ensure the security of Miss Universe candidates while on the road.

PNP-HPG spokesperson Supt. Elizabeth Velasquez in an interview Thursday said 79 HPG personnel are involved in the road security of the candidates from the pre-pageant activities in various parts of the country up to the coronation night on Jan.

30, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

Velasquez said there are groups that may disrupt the smooth conduct of the Miss Universe activities so they will strictly implement security protocols for the safety of the candidates and other persons involved in the event.

She added that the HPG and the IACT (Inter-Agency Council on Traffic) are still finalizing possible rerouting schemes as well as alternate routes for Miss Universe activities here in Metro Manila.

So far, the HPG official said they have allotted half-a-million-peso budget for their operations during the month-long Miss Universe activities.

”Ang magiging role namin para sa Miss U (Our role for the Miss Universe) is traffic management and escort para sa convoy ng Miss U (for the convoy of Miss Universe).
