LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—Whatever is the political form, Liberal Party stardard-bearer Mar Roxas said here on Sunday that resources on how to improve the lives of the farmers is first and foremost.

This was the immediate reaction of Roxas when asked by residents of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) how he would support and push to make their region an autonomous one.

The LP bet said the form is not the answer to their problem as he explained to the people of CAR that injecting more resources will surely uplift the lives of the farmers.

“Para sa akin, ang importante dito ay resources sa imprastraktura, resources sa suporta mula sa gobyerno. Whatever is the political form, whether it is devolution, whether it is outright autonomy, what is important is additional infrastructure and development of the area to bring their goods faster to the market,” Roxas told reporters in a chance interview after he visited the agro industrial trading fair here.

He said that aside from what the Daamg Matuwid has started, he would recommend government banks to lend farmers the needed money with low interest rates.

“Sa paraang ito, mababawasan ang middlemen at ang pagbibiyahe ng kanilang inani ang magpapataas ng kanilang kita,” he pointed out.

Roxas said farmers can form cooperatives and buy needed trucks that will transport their goods to market.

The bottoms up budgeting will enhance their needed support that can uplift their present lives, he added.
