Steve Martin to visit Toronto for Lawren Harris exhibit at Art Gallery of Ontario
TORONTO—The Art Gallery of Ontario is set to present a Lawren Harris exhibition complete with a talk by comedy star Steve Martin and a performance by the National Ballet of Canada.
The AGO says “The Idea of North: The Paintings of Lawren Harris” will open on July 1 following a critically acclaimed trip across the U.S.
Martin, who curated the exhibit, will discuss the project with AGO curator Andrew Hunter at Roy Thomson Hall on June 22.
And starting on Aug. 31, the AGO and the National Ballet of Canada will present the new Harris-inspired commission, “The Dreamers Ever Leave You.”
National Ballet artists will perform it inside a gallery space at the AGO, accompanied by live music composed by Lubomyr Melnyk.
“The Idea of North,” which features more than 30 landscapes by the Group of Seven member, debuted at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles last fall.
Tickets for the Martin talk are available through the Roy Thomson Hall box office and go on sale to AGO members on Feb. 22, and to the public on Feb. 26.
