MANILA—Senator Serge Osmena II on Monday said favorable Supreme Court (SC) decision on the disqualification case would propel independent presidential aspirant Grace Poe back on top of the survey standing.

”It will definitely help because she is being accused now of having abandoned her country, but if the SC says no: she did not abandon her country, she is a really Filipina, then it will help her standing,” Osmena said in a media interview.

The SC is still deliberating Poe’s petition to reverse the Commission on Election (Comelec)’s decision favoring the petitioners’ claim that the 2013 polls’ No.

1 senator, as a foundling, is not a Filipino citizen and had not met 10-year residency requirement.

Osmena said it is important for the SC to make the final decision before the May 9 polls.

”As the election day gets closer and the SC will not have made the decision, then the voters will say, I will gonna vote anyway and let the SC reject my judgment on who should be the president,” Osmena explained.

”If she wins and there is no SC decision yet, I believe the SC will say that the people have spoken,” he added.

If the SC will decide to disqualify Poe, Osmena said half of those support the lady senator will vote for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

”If you remove Grace from the race, Duterte pops up more than Vice President (Jejomar) Binay and Secretary (Mar) Roxas,” Osmena said.

Osemana is seeking reelection as independent candidate but was adopted by the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in its senatorial ticket.
