76% of Asian travelers seek ‘new experiences’ – study

MANILA – As traveling has become inexpensive these days, a recent study conducted by an internationally-acclaimed travel association showed that more Asian travelers want to “try something new” this year.

The study showed that 76 percent of Asian travelers want to expand their horizons.

These findings are contained in the latest PATA Connected Visitor Economy Bulletin that highlights six key travel trends for 2016.

It also showed that global economic uncertainties have minimal impact on travel budgets. In fact, it one in three travelers is planning to spend more on leisure trips this year.

Around 49 percent of those planning to spend more state that it’s because they and/or their family members deserve it while 31 percent believe that it is an important contribution to maintaining good health and well-being.

Other key trends extracted from the study include a rise in “TV tourism” or travellers increasingly influenced by what they have seen on their TV and the need to have air-conditioned (A/C) rooms and in-room WI-FI.

Globally, 63 percent state that A/C is essential when choosing leisure accommodation

In the Philippines, tourist destinations are incorporating nature and adventure activities as products to drawn in more tourists.

Other factors that entice tourists to visit the country are its beaches, heritage and culture and MICE
