12th Rogers Santa Claus parade kicks off the holiday season this Sunday

Times:

10:30 am – 1 pm

Coast Capital Savings Christmas Square     

(Vancouver Art Gallery plaza facing Georgia Street)

 

Face painting, holiday photo booth, Christmas ornament decorating, Letters to Santa station, Greater Vancouver Food Bank drop-off zone, and entertainment stage with music and dance performances.

 

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm                                       

Parade          

Parade starts at Georgia and Broughton, travels east to Howe Street, then travels south on Howe Street to Davie Street.

 

3 pm – 5 pm

Nordstrom Photos with Santa at Robson Square Ice Rink

 

Media passes:

Passes will be required for cameras to be on the parade route while the parade is in progress.

–  Gord Nelson, Vice President, Western Region, Rogers Communications

–  Aart Schuurman Hess, CEO, Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society

–  Grand Marshal Rolly Fox

–  Santa Claus (between 12:30 and 1pm at parade start area)

 

More than 300,000 spectators are expected to be on hand as the 12th Annual Rogers Santa Claus parade celebrates the start of the holiday season with more than 50 marching bands, choirs, festive floats, and community groups.

This year’s grand marshal is Rolly Fox in honour of the 35th anniversary of his son Terry’s Marathon of Hope run across Canada and the tremendous work the Terry Fox Foundation has done to raise money for cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run, held worldwide since 1980.

Spectators are asked to celebrate the spirit of giving by bringing a dollar or a non-perishable food donation for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. Volunteers will collect donations along the parade route and at the Coast Capital Savings Christmas Square in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The parade route will be closed to traffic from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm with parking restrictions on the route in effect as of 6 am.
