Amendments to the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Act of 1999 will be signed into law by President Aquino III on Monday afternoon at the 15th PESO Congress in Pasay City.

The PESO Act of 1999, alternatively called Republic Act 8759 was legislated to create multi-employment service facilities in the country. It has provided training activities, career guidance, certification tests and job referral services. PESOs have reached 75 provinces, 142 cities and 1, 374 municipalities around the Philippines.

The amendments that President Aquino will sign aims to produce PESOs in all provinces, municipalities, cities and other strategic areas around the country

PESO also seeks to create permanent plantilla positions for PESO personnel and improve labor market information and employment facilitation service via computerized systems of monitoring, coordination, and reporting.

“Just recently, the government has posted online over 3,000 job vacancies in five agencies in an effort to attract young graduates to careers in public service,” Angara, author of the PESO bill, said in an earlier statement to The Philippine Star.

“With the amended PESO law, we can ensure that every new graduate with the right qualifications, even those who graduated from schools in the countryside, will be given an opportunity to apply for these jobs,” the Senator added.

Sens. Sonny Angara, Loren Legarda and Cynthia Villar, together with several members of the congress will be present to witness the signing of PESO act into law.
