MAKATI, PHILIPPINES – All clear.

Janet Lim-Napoles was cleared for an endometrial biopsy by the medical team from Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) after reaching a stable blood sugar level over the weekend. All they need now before the biopsy—which is considered as a minor surgery—is Napoles’ consent.

The biopsy was ordered to determine if the mass in Napoles’ uterus is malignant or benign.

According to the Head of the OB-Gyne Department at OsMak, Dr. Florentina Villanueva, Napoles needs to undergo a 6-hour preparation period before the biopsy.

The biopsy, which can be accomplished between 5 to 15 minutes, is a prerequisite to another procedure. The findings in the biopsy will tell the medical team which course to take in Napoles’ situation. The results will be ready within three days and Napoles can recover from the procedure in as little as 24 hours.

During the biopsy, at least five members of the medical team will be present, including Villanueva and Napoles’ private obstetrician Dr. Elsie Badillo. Other than the medical team and Napoles, nobody else will be allowed to view the procedure.

Napoles’ medical team will send the biopsy results to the Makati Regional Trial Court once ready. A medical conference is also set once the results are out in order to discuss the next course of action.
