Sharon Cuneta on FAMAS exclusion: I felt a little offended
MANILA – During her guest appearance in ABS-CBN’s talk show Tonight with Boy Abunda, actress-host Sharon Cuneta admitted that she ‘felt a little offended’ not being among those awarded as the Iconic Movie Queens of Philippine Cinema in the 63rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) Awards.
“It was icons and queens, and I felt a little… a little offended by the FAMAS, because I know, I was once one of… We were a few, just a few of us who ruled the 80’s and the 90’s,” she said.
Adding the new category, the FAMAS Awards handed over trophies to Gloria Romero, Susan Roces, Nora Aunor, Dawn Zulueta, Maricel Soriano and Sarah Geronimo for their works in the silver screen.
In her acceptance speech, Nora Aunor gave recognition to Sharon’s contribution to cinema during the 80’s and 90’s and wanted to share the award with her along with other deserving movie stars Bea Alonzo and Marian Rivera.
“Gusto ko pong hatiin ang karangalang ito sa apat na tao po na sana po ay makita rin natin sa entablado sa mga susunod na taon (I would like to share this award to four persons that I hope we’ll also see in this stage in the succeeding years),” the Superstar said.
“Unang-una na po si Ms. Sharon Cuneta, dekada otsenta. Hindi natin matatawaran ang kanyang mga ginawa niya noong dekada otsenta. At itong year 2000, si Bea Alonzo at si Marian Rivera. Gusto kong ialay ang award na ito sa kanila,” she added.
(First of all, Ms. Sharon Cuneta during the 80’s. We can’t disregard what she’s done during the 80s. And this year 2000, Bea Alonzo and Marian Rivera. I want to offer this award to them.)
Despite the exclusion, the Megastar felt honored and thankful to Nora Aunor’s words.
“Ate Guy, I don’t know how to get in touch with you but it was totally unexpected… And I just want to say, when one of the best actresses not only in the Philippines but in the world says, ‘Sana, gusto ko rin sana makita dito ang iba pang mga dapat na nandito. Unang-una na si Ms. Sharon Cuneta, dahil hindi natin matatawaran…’ ang mga ginawa ko daw nung 80s,” she said.
(Ate Guy, I don’t know how to get in touch with you but it was totally unexpected… And I just want to say, when one of the best actresses not only in the Philippines but in the world says, ‘I hope, I also want to see others who should be here. First of all, Ms. Sharon Cuneta, because we can’t disregard…’ what I’ve done in the 80’s.)
“Actually sabi ko nga, ‘So ano yung mga nangyari nung 80’s at 90’s? Buti pa si Ate Guy, naalala niya (I actually said, ‘So, what happened in the 80’s and 90’s? At least Ate Guy remembered),” she added.
It can be noted that Sharon has starred in more than 50 movies, wherein many of these became blockbuster hits, including “Bituing Walang Ningning,” “Maging Sino Ka Man,” and many more.
