15,796 individuals in Central Luzon affected by ‘Kabayan’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — A total of 3,318 families or 15,796 persons in 38 villages in Central Luzon have been affected by Tropical Storm “Kabayan” which crossed over the region after it made a landfall Friday in San Luis-Baler in Aurora.

Based on the latest Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) report, four provinces in Central Luzon, namely Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Zambales, were hit by floods due to strong rains spawned by Kabayan since Thursday night.

Nueva Ecija was badly hit in the region with 2,422 families or 11,243 individuals displaced due to floods in the cities of Cabanatuan and Palayan and the towns of Laur and Bongabon.

Maria, Bocaue, San Miguel, Plaridel, Balagtas, Marilao and Meycauayan City were hit by floods, affecting some 664 families or 3,165 individuals.

In Baler, Aurora where tropical storm Kabayan made a landfall, a total of 229 families or 1,374 persons were displaced while three families or 14 persons in Sta. Cruz, Zambales were affected.

A total of 128 houses in Aurora were damaged where 27 were totally destroyed and 101 were partially damaged.

The RDRRMC also reported that some 936 families or 4,863 persons are being served inside and outside the various evacuation centers in the region.

Meanwhile, a total 53 villages in the Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga are still underwater up to three feet.

In Bulacan, the affected towns are Marilao, Meycauayan, Bocaue, and Balagtas while in Nueva Ecija are the municipalities of Laur, Cuyapo, Rizal and Bongabon.

In Pampanga, six villages in the flood-prone town of Macababe are still under water up to two feet.
