Australian boxer dies after fight against Filipino

MANILA – Australian boxer David Browne Jr. passed away shortly after a knockout defeat in his bout with Filipino fighter Carlo Magali, according to an Australian report.

The 28-year-old Aussie regained consciousness later on but only for a short while.

He was then rushed to the hospital and stayed confined under comatose. His family eventually decided to remove his life support.

Magali, for his part, disclosed that there was no immediate medical attention provided to Browne after he was knocked out.

“It took time, maybe an hour before they managed to bring him (Browne) to the hospital. I was there and I felt really bad for him,” the Filipino boxer said in a GMA News report.

“I never thought this would happen. I prayed for him to live… I offer my condolences to his family. I didn’t mean for this to happen. I’m sorry. I only did my job and unfortunately this sometimes happens in boxing,” he added.

Prior Browne’s death, another Australian fighter, Brayd Smith, also died after a boxing match earlier this year. Smith fought 10 hard rounds against Filipino boxer John Vincent Moralde.
