MANILA — It seems like the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) will once again be divided into different factions in the 2016 national elections.

According to Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara, LDP will not endorse any candidate for president nor for vice president in the elections this May 2016.

Angara further noted that their party is not sure whether they would remain a coalition partner in the election season.

Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara is the son of former senator Edgardo Angara who established the LDP in 1988.

“You can free to support who you want,” says the younger Angara in a press briefing.

It can be noted that in the 2010 elections, the LDP was divided when the province of Aurora supported the candidacy of President Noynoy Aquino while Congressman Bella Angara-Castillo endorsed former senator Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro.

This was preceded in 2004 when then LDP president, the older Angara supported an outsider, the late Fernando Poe, Jr. while the late Agapito “Butz” Aquino endorsed former senator Panfilo Lacson.

Angara said that the LDP leaders will meet again after the filing of certificate of candidacy next month to discuss their future plans.
