MANILA — Malacanang yesterday maintained that President Aquino or the administration did not make Vice President Jejomar Binay a punching bag.

This is amid reports that Binay’s allies said that Binay was treated like a punching bag of the Aquino administration.

“We do not share the assessment of the allies of the Vice President that he was made a punching bag by the administration,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told reporters.

“We have always endeavored to keep public discourse on programs and policies and not centered on personalities,” she added.

The Aquino administration was also accused of being involved in raising the allegations against Binay and his family.

Malacanang also denied Aquino and the administration’s involvement in the series of corruption allegations thrown against Binay.

Binay left two positions — the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and that of the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers affairs.
