De Lima to meet with NBI team probing bribery allegations on Wang’s deportation case
MANILA — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima will meet on Tuesday with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Special Team which is tasked to investigate the allegations of bribery in the pending deportation of Chinese fugitive Wang Bo.
De Lima said if it turns out during the meeting that the allegations that money changed hands at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) when it lifted its earlier decision to deport Wang have no basis, she will immediately order the implementation of the summary deportation against the Chinese gambling Lord.
However, De Lima added that if the NBI team will say that they still need Wang to pursue a more in-depth investigation of the accusations, her decision not to deport Wang yet would remain.
De Lima assured that Wang is “isolated” at the immigration detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City and that his lawyer is the only one allowed to visit him once a clearance is secured from the DOJ chief.
