Solon wants to fine establishments who ‘keep the change’

MANILA — Las Pinas Rep. Mark Villar recently filed a bill that seeks to fine business establishments for not giving the exact change to customers.

Villar, who is the chairperson of the House Committee of Trade and Industry said it is important for establishments to give the exact change as every single peso counts.

Villar filed House Bill 4730 or the Exact Change Act which will fine violators from P500 and P25,000 or 3 percent to 10 percent of the gross sales of the establishment.

The Exact Change Act has been approved on third reading in the Lower House.

Store counters will be asked to put signs reminding customers to demand for the exact change.

They will also be asked to use price tags with  the incorporated applicable tax.

“Kahit maliit ang mga coins na ‘di naibibigay, ‘pag naipon ‘yan malaki na rin ‘yan,” Villar said.

(However small the amount of those coins are, if you put them all together, the amount will still be big.)
