MANILA – After Sinag Pilipinas won the gold in the 28thSoutheast Asian (SEA) Games men’s basketball finals, the Philippine team has then been considering sending pro players in the next games to adapt to the fast changing basketball trends in the world stage.

Bagging the gold was not easy for Sinag Pilipinas, going through Thailand in the semifinals and Indonesia in the finals.

“I’m not sure what our options are. You have to remember USA Basketball went through the same thing,” coach Tab Baldwin said after the team’s final match.

“They sent amateurs for so many years in major tournaments and all of a sudden they realized the world had caught up. We’re going through the same thing,” Baldwin added.

Winning another gold this season, Philippine basketball had been keeping up with its continues domination in the sport.

But with the emergence of the Asean Basketball League, Balwin believed that the Philippine basketball should level up to stay in its lead.

“Our amateurs are very, very good basketball players. But these professionals are playing in the ABL and other countries are catching up,” Baldwin said.

“What we’re going to do with that, I don’t know. But it’s certainly worth the discussion,” he added.
