UNA claims LP’s campaign funds from PH national budget
MANILA – According to United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) president and Navotas City Representative Tobias Tiangco, Liberal Party chief strategist and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad discreetly allotted about P581 billion from next year’s national budget to fund Liberal Party’s (LP) election campaigns.
Tiangco claimed that the administration’s new budgeting approach, which will be freeing up to P581 billion from the regular annual budget, was actually ‘designed to divert discretionary money into pet projects in an election year to garner votes, not help alleviate poverty and help the poor.
’
Tiangco added that the freed P581 billion could just end up as LP’s budget for their candidates’ nationwide campaigns in next year’s national elections. He believed that the move was under Abad’s initiative, as well as that of his LP allies.
The lawmaker despised Abad for even bragging about more socio-economic programs incorporated in next year’s national budget.
“We oppose the Abad budget just as we opposed the original illegal DAP distributions. The Abad budget is simply ‘A Bad budget’ and must be stopped in its tracks or the people will suffer,” he said.
Abad, for his part, simply dismissed Tiangco’s claims.
“Ridiculous. That’s Tiangco for you. Predictably preposterous,” he said.
