Binay-Estrada tandem possible for 2016 elections
MANILA – For the coming national elections, detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada disclosed that he would not close his doors for a possible tandem with Vice President Jejomar Binay who had already expressed interest in joining the presidential race.
“Why not,” Estrada responded when reporters asked him if he was open to being Binay’s running mate in next year’s elections.
Despite interest in seeking higher office, Estrada stressed that he would first settle political issues he had been facing.
He had recently been linked to the multi-billion pork barrel scam, putting him on trial for plunder and graft.
When told that his half brother Senator JV Estrada had already declared support for Senator Grace Poe should she file candidacy for presidency, Senator Jinggoy Estrada only said that his brother had the freedom to choose whom to support.
He clarified, however, that their presidential preferences did not represent that of their entire family nor of their father. He also said that it was not like he was not supporting Poe.
“That may be his (JV) own decision. But I am not saying for myself that I am not supporting Senator Grace or Vice President Binay or whoever the potential candidates. In due time, maybe,” Estrada said.
