No deployment ban in South Korea – POEA

MANILA — The government has yet to order a ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in South Korea despite the more than 140 reported cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome – Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) there.

“No ban thus far,” according to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Hans Cacdac.

He added that they are relying on other government agencies regarding such announcement.

“We rely on Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) recommendations in this regard,’ the POEA chief said.

He added, “We have been monitoring the situation of our OFWs thru the DFA, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) labor attache, and Korean ministry of employment.

”

It was reported that 14 people have died of the deadly virus in the said country.

Filipino skilled and domestic workers are employed in South Korea.
