MANILA — Senator Grace Poe maintains his stand on being an independent candidate in the 2016 elections.

Following several offers from different political groups, Poe said that she has no plans of joining any party.

“I kept my position that I maintain to be an independent candidate,” Poe said speaking to reporters on Thursday.

This is even when some members of the Liberal Party declared that they will not be endorsing a non-member in next year’s elections.

“If they are not open to a non-LP member, that’s their policy,” the senator said when asked to comment on LP’s pronouncements.

Poe also added that President Aquino did not offer her to join the LP during their meeting on Wednesday.

She also said that she believes that it will be better if she maintains her independence from political parties.

“I think that our countrymen will appreciate it more if you maintain your independence. At this point, I think it’s too politically expedient just for the upcoming elections to swear in to a particular party,” she added.

She added that being independent allowed her to freely make a stand on certain issues.

“I feel my independence has allowed me also to make certain positions without having to be constrained by a particular party.

Not that I’m saying that a party is not good but what I’m just saying is that there are certain considerations that it’s better also to remain independent,” she said.
