Malacañang has reminded government agencies to keep their Christmas and year-end celebrations simple, stressing that austerity measures remain in effect as the country prepares for pressing economic and environmental challenges.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Friday, November 6, that while the government is not issuing a new order specifically banning lavish Christmas parties, agencies are being encouraged to avoid extravagant celebrations.

Castro emphasized that public institutions must remain mindful of their spending priorities, especially as the country faces other urgent concerns that require government attention.

The reminder comes amid preparations for the possible effects of Super El Niño, which could bring prolonged dry conditions and put pressure on the country’s water and power supply.

The government has also maintained its policy of prudent spending following recent calamities, with agencies expected to prioritize essential public services and programs over nonessential expenses.

The existing Memorandum Circular No. 110, issued in December 2025, directs national government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges to observe austerity during the Christmas season. Local government units are likewise encouraged to follow the measure.

Under the circular, government offices are expected to keep holiday celebrations simple and meaningful while ensuring that public funds are used responsibly.

Malacañang’s latest reminder reinforces the administration’s call for fiscal discipline as government agencies prepare for the holiday season.
