US President Donald Trump has said he is willing to accept the results of the 2026 midterm elections and work with Democrats as his Republican Party faces the possibility of losing control of Congress.
In an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday, Trump expressed readiness to cooperate with Democrats following the election results.
“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” Trump was quoted as saying.
He also indicated that his administration would seek common ground with the opposing party, saying they would work together and try to reach agreements.
Trump’s remarks came as Democrats made significant gains in several closely watched races, putting them in a position to take control of the US House of Representatives and the Senate.
The results could reshape the political landscape in Washington and complicate Trump’s legislative agenda during the remaining two years of his presidency.
Despite the Republican setbacks, Trump downplayed the possibility that the outcome reflected dissatisfaction with his leadership. He blamed the party’s losses partly on his absence from the ballot, claiming Republicans would have performed better had he personally been a candidate.
Before Election Day, Trump had given a more conditional response when asked whether he would accept the results, saying he would do so only if the elections were honest.
His latest statement marks a shift in tone as election results point to major Democratic gains and a possible change in control of Congress.
