Filipino comedian and impersonator Gil Aducal Morales, widely known as Ate Gay, died on Sunday, November 1, at the age of 55, his family confirmed through a statement on his official Facebook page.

Morales, who was known for his song mashups, quick wit and impersonations of National Artist Nora Aunor, had been battling stage 4 cancer since 2025.

His family said he died peacefully while surrounded by loved ones after a difficult period of hospitalization.

They thanked those who had offered prayers, financial assistance and support during his illness, and requested continued prayers for their family.

Details of his wake and funeral arrangements had yet to be announced as of the family’s statement.

Final weeks marked by health complications

Ate Gay publicly disclosed in September 2025 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a rare form of cancer that commonly develops in the salivary glands.

He underwent treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation, and shared updates about his condition with supporters.

His health deteriorated in October 2026.

According to his family, Morales was rushed to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City on October 17 after experiencing difficulty breathing.

Doctors diagnosed him with septic shock and acute respiratory failure associated with pneumonia, requiring intensive care.

Although he initially recovered from septic shock, his condition remained serious. On October 29, he suffered a stroke that damaged the right side of his brain.

He remained in critical condition and required life-support equipment in the days before his death.

A celebration of life before his passing

One of Morales’ final public celebrations took place on October 15, when he gathered family and close friends for a living funeral at Forest Lake Memorial Parks in Biñan, Laguna.

Unlike a traditional funeral, the gathering allowed him to hear tributes and spend time with loved ones while he was still alive.

He shared moments from the event online, describing it as a celebration of life.

The gathering drew attention from fans who admired his decision to celebrate the people and relationships important to him while he could still be part of the occasion.

Remembered for comedy and music

Ate Gay built his entertainment career through stand-up comedy, musical performances and celebrity impersonations.

He became particularly known for portraying the late Nora Aunor, incorporating her voice, mannerisms and songs into his comedy routines.

His performances also featured creative song mashups, combining familiar tunes and unexpected lyrics to entertain audiences.

Beyond live performances, Morales appeared on Philippine television programs, including Comedy Bar and Wowowillie.

His distinctive combination of comedy and music earned him a following among audiences who enjoyed his improvisation and playful performances.

Following the announcement of his death, fellow entertainers and fans shared messages of condolence and memories of his performances.

His family has asked the public to respect their privacy as they prepare to announce arrangements for his final farewell.
