Filipino gymnastics star Carlos Yulo missed the podium in the men’s floor exercise final at the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships after a costly fall left him in eighth place on Saturday, October 24.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist finished with 13.233 points, placing last among eight finalists despite entering the medal round as the second-highest qualifier.
Yulo had impressed during qualification with 14.500 points, but a fall during his second tumbling pass disrupted his performance in the final.
His score consisted of 5.800 for difficulty, 7.633 for execution and a 0.100 bonus, offset by a 0.300-point penalty.
American gymnast claims floor gold
Frederick Richard of the United States captured the floor exercise world title with 14.633 points, narrowly defeating Great Britain’s Jake Jarman, who earned silver with 14.600.
Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat completed the podium with 14.466.
Yulo’s eighth-place finish marked a disappointing turn after his strong qualification performance. The Filipino gymnast previously won the world floor exercise title in 2019 and secured bronze in the same event at the 2025 championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
He also entered the Rotterdam competition fresh from winning two gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.
Yulo gets another medal opportunity in vault
Despite the setback, Yulo still has an opportunity to bring home a medal from Rotterdam.
He is scheduled to compete in the men’s vault final on Sunday, October 25, where he will defend the world title he won in Jakarta last year.
The vault final is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m. Philippine time.
Yulo qualified for the event in sixth place, earning another opportunity to compete against some of the world’s leading gymnasts.
The Filipino star previously won Olympic gold medals in both floor exercise and vault at the 2024 Paris Games.
His remaining competition in Rotterdam will determine whether he can add another world championship medal to his collection before the tournament concludes.
