The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has intensified its campaign against illegal vape products after inspections of 65 retail establishments across several parts of the country resulted in 18 apprehension slips and the documentation of 19 violations.
The Tax Compliance Verification Drive, conducted on October 7, covered vape shops in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque, the Negros Island Region and Cagayan de Oro City.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the coordinated inspections were aimed at protecting government revenues, promoting fair competition and holding businesses accountable for violations of tax laws.
He stressed that the agency would continue taking action against the illegal trade of vape products while ensuring that legitimate businesses comply with their tax obligations.
The bureau also committed to expanding intelligence-driven inspections and monitoring operations to identify noncompliant products and businesses involved in their sale and distribution.
The intensified campaign comes as commercial activity is expected to increase ahead of the holiday season, a period when authorities anticipate greater risks involving illicit vape and tobacco products.
The BIR urged retailers and distributors to comply with applicable tax regulations, warning that enforcement operations would continue as part of efforts to curb tax evasion and protect government revenues.
