Gregg Apolonio is seeking another term on Dawson Creek City Council, bringing his experience as a sitting councillor and long-standing Filipino-Canadian community volunteer into the 2026 British Columbia local elections.
Apolonio was first elected to Dawson Creek council in October 2022, becoming the first councillor in the city’s history of Filipino and Asian descent, according to his official city profile.
Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Apolonio earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in Accounting from Far Eastern University. Before moving to Canada, he worked as a restaurant manager with Jollibee. He arrived in Dawson Creek under the Foreign Worker Program in 2009, became a permanent resident in 2012 and a Canadian citizen in 2016.
Beyond City Hall, Apolonio has been active in community and volunteer work. He has served two terms as president of the KALIPI Filipino-Canadian Association, is the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, volunteers with the Rotary Club and has also been involved with Notre Dame Catholic Church and the Dawson Creek Tourism Advisory Committee.
Professionally, Apolonio has worked as a support worker with Independence Networking Services, assisting people with special needs and helping them live independently and reach their potential.
As a councillor, Apolonio has emphasized responsible use of municipal resources, careful management of taxpayer-funded spending and community engagement. His public record has included discussions around municipal spending and service priorities, including debates over funding for animal control services.
For the 2026 election, Apolonio is running as an independent candidate with no confirmed electoral organization. The City of Dawson Creek lists him among 13 candidates competing for six council seats. General voting day is set for October 17, 2026, with advance voting scheduled for October 7 and 14.
Apolonio is also among the Filipino-Canadian candidates running for municipal and school board positions across British Columbia this year, reflecting the growing participation of Filipino Canadians in local civic life.
