Baguio artisan Adelaida Guia earns Guinness record for largest crochet mandala

Baguio-based artisan Adelaida Guia has officially earned a Guinness World Records title for creating the world’s largest crochet mandala, with her handmade work measuring 28.03 square meters.

Guinness World Records lists Guia as the record holder for the largest crochet mandala, which was officially achieved in Itogon, Benguet, on January 22, 2026. The organization said the record-setting piece covers 28.03 square meters, equivalent to about 301 square feet.

Guia received confirmation that her application had been successful on September 17, according to local reports. Her creation, known as the “Wishing Star Mandala,” was the result of a record attempt that began in July 2024. Guinness said Guia’s interest in crochet was inspired by a lifelong connection to the craft passed down by her mother.

The giant mandala was made using recycled yarn and repurposed rug material and weighed about 32 kilograms. Parts of the project were completed during public crocheting sessions at Burnham Park’s Rose Garden in Baguio City.

Before the Guinness recognition, the work underwent several measurements and assessments as Guia completed the requirements for her application. In September 2025, independent civil engineers measured the mandala at 29.359 square meters during an assessment in Baguio, but the final measurement recognized by Guinness was 28.03 square meters following the record attempt in Itogon on January 22, 2026.

Guia, who moved to Baguio with her family in 2016, had become known locally for displaying her large crocheted mandalas along Session Road. Her record attempt was also supported through the University of the Philippines Baguio’s SILBI-TBI incubation program, with assistance from the Baguio City government, Creative Baguio City Council and private partners.

Guinness World Records now officially identifies Guia as the title holder for the largest crochet mandala, with the record listed under the Philippines and dated January 22, 2026.
