Sara Duterte’s missing cash declarations return to the center of impeachment trial

PHILIPPINES – The lack of declared cash on hand and bank deposits in Vice President Sara Duterte’s SALNs has resurfaced during the impeachment trial, as prosecutors examine her financial records covering several years.

The issue was raised as the prosecution presented Duterte’s own sworn financial documents before the Senate impeachment court. The records reportedly showed no declared cash on hand or money in the bank from 2019 to 2025.

The testimony is part of the prosecution’s broader effort to examine Duterte’s declared wealth, business interests and financial disclosures. Two officials from the Office of the Ombudsman and Securities and Exchange Commission are testifying on her SALNs and business records during Day 25 of the trial.

The renewed focus on the SALNs puts Duterte’s financial declarations back under scrutiny as the impeachment proceedings examine allegations involving her wealth and public accountability.

The hearing also highlights how the information contained in a public official’s SALN can become central to questions about transparency, unexplained assets and compliance with financial disclosure requirements.
