Dizon orders tighter security as flood facilities face equipment theft

Philippines – Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon inspected flood control facilities in Metro Manila as the government steps up efforts to strengthen the capital’s flood protection system amid continued heavy rains.

During the inspection, Dizon warned against the theft of equipment from pumping stations, stressing that missing or damaged machinery could compromise the government’s ability to respond to flooding.

The inspection focused on the condition and operations of flood control facilities, including pumping stations responsible for removing excess water from flood-prone communities.

Dizon emphasized the need to protect government equipment and ensure that facilities remain operational when communities need them most.

The warning comes as several parts of Metro Manila continue to experience flooding brought by persistent rains and the southwest monsoon.

Authorities are also reviewing flood control infrastructure and response measures as the government faces renewed pressure to improve the country’s defenses against flooding.

With floodwaters rising, Dizon is making it clear: every piece of equipment meant to keep communities dry must be protected.
