PHILIPPINES – A majority of adult Filipinos feel safe in their homes and communities, according to a new OCTA Research survey.

The survey found that 72 percent of respondents said they feel safe in their neighborhood, while 68 percent said they are not afraid to walk alone at night.

However, confidence was lower when it came to home security, with only 54 percent saying they are not worried about robbers breaking into their homes.

OCTA Research said the results indicate that Filipinos generally have positive perceptions of safety in their communities, but remain more cautious about specific personal and household security risks.

The Visayas recorded the highest confidence in neighborhood safety at 84 percent, while the National Capital Region posted the lowest at 58 percent.

For walking alone at night, confidence was highest in Balance Luzon at 72 percent and lowest in the NCR at 48 percent.

Meanwhile, confidence in home security was highest in Balance Luzon at 61 percent and lowest in the NCR at 44 percent.

The survey was conducted from July 4 to 11 among 1,200 adult respondents nationwide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
