Quezon City, Philippines – The Quezon City Veterinary Department has established a dedicated evacuation area for pets belonging to residents displaced in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, allowing evacuated households to temporarily house their animals apart from the main evacuation center.

The barangay captain of Bagong Silangan said the arrangement was set up to help keep the evacuation center clean and to serve as a precautionary measure, particularly since evacuees are expected to remain in the same shared space for an extended period. It was not immediately clear from local officials what specific circumstances prompted the evacuation.

The pet evacuation area is located directly beside the new evacuation center in Bagong Silangan.

According to local officials, pets brought to the site will be registered in the same manner as human evacuees. Registered animals will also be eligible to receive free food, water, and other forms of assistance provided by the local government for the duration of the evacuation.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by Quezon City authorities to address the needs of evacuated households more comprehensively, extending basic support services to animals as well as people during displacement.

Local officials have not indicated how long the pet evacuation area will remain operational or whether similar arrangements will be replicated in other evacuation sites across Quezon City.
