Hunter Biden says his father Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread further into his bones, calling the condition painful and debilitating.

Former US President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has advanced further into his body, his son Hunter Biden confirmed in an interview, describing his father’s condition as painful and increasingly debilitating.

Hunter Biden told the BBC on Friday that his father’s cancer “has spread” and “metastasized into his bones and further,” calling the condition painful and debilitating. He said watching his father go through the illness has been difficult for him and the rest of the family, though he noted the 83-year-old remains active despite the toll.

The former president’s office first disclosed the diagnosis in May 2025, describing it as an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Following the announcement, Biden underwent a five-week course of radiation therapy alongside hormone treatment as part of his care plan. Despite completing that treatment, Hunter Biden’s latest remarks indicate the disease has continued to progress.

The update comes roughly a month after the former president’s last public appearance in June, and follows earlier comments from former first lady Jill Biden, who said in June that her husband would live with cancer for the rest of his life. She noted at the time that his condition differed from an ordinary prostate cancer diagnosis specifically because it had already spread to his bones by the time it was discovered.

Hunter Biden’s interview also touched on other matters, including the sweeping pardon his father issued him in December 2024 covering federal gun and tax convictions, for which he expressed continued gratitude.

Representatives for the former president declined to comment further on Hunter Biden’s remarks. Biden is expected to release a memoir later this year, following the US midterm elections.
